Welcome aboard, sounds like you have some nice toys! Please let us know when you can post pictures of your Studebaker in our gallery, they seem to be very rare.

I would try calling these guys:

http://www.studebakerparts.com/

about a manual. I don't know if the Studebaker Napco stuff would be in any of the manuals though, and don't know how Studebaker Napcos may have differed from GM ones. I know mine used Studebaker brakes, which is how I found that web site.

Those Triumphs are pretty bikes. I have a '70 Bonneville but it will never be a show bike, I just like riding it.
____________________
Ed Miller
'58 Apache Short Fleetside Napco
Falls City, OR

Hey everyone, I have a customer with a 1956 GMC 100 NAPCO truck that would like power steering. All of the research I have done so far points to dead ends. I am hoping that one of you might have some suggestions as to a solution. The truck has the 6 cylinder, so I am looking for a gear box, pump and lines, the lines are optional as I can always have those made. I did see one companies kit out of CA , but i spoke with them and the specifically stated that it is not for NAPCO trucks.
Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Ross

I have a _55-56 GMC power steering setup off of a regular 2wd truck that I am going to use on my '57 GMC napco suburban . The GMC is an actual recurclating ball gearbox(like newer trucks) that uses a special steering column and a cast iron column mount bracket at the dash. I have some pics of a setup on a truck if you want to send me your email address I will forward them to you.

I will try to get a photo this weekend. It goes in this order:

Spindle (with bushing set in)

Then I removed the outer axle.

As I looked inside the spindle arm there is the innr axle.

As I felt back on this axle there was a small one piece rubber seal then another bushing with a rim on it.

I think when I pulled out the outer axle the innder axle started to come out which dislodged the seal and bushing.

The disappointing thing is I checked my spindle and there are two gouge mark holes that go all the way thru the spindle.

I will definitely get a book to help out.

Thanks for the help.

I went out and looked at the two axles that I can get to without digging too deeply and one has a 37 - space - 14 cast in after the words NAPCO. The other says 156 and then its worn off. That seems to be the big issue. If these trucks were used at all, the stamped serial numbers and ratio numbers are worn off. It's supposed to warm up a bit this week, so I'll get out there and take a more careful look. Based on the number of your carrier and the eight lugs, I'd guess that you have at least a 3/4 ton axle there.

Larry
